For over a century, Thorpe House School has been known for the well-rounded education it provides. Established by Lilla and Ethel Courtnall in 1897, it was already known for 'Swedish gymnastics' by the turn of the century.
This discipline enabled girls to enjoy dance and physical exercise without the burden of corsets. By the 1920s, the school had acquired a reputation for drama and music which continues to this day.
Since 1953, when the school moved to its current site, Sunny Hill, students have enjoyed the grounds immensely. Old girls, just like pupils today, recall building dens and picking flowers in the woodland.
